Easter Morning at the Cannon House

After the disappointment of the Easter Egg Hunt the day before, Tate was really hoping that the Easter Bunny would leave him a few more eggs to find.  So, this year the bunny left his basket with a few goodies and then a bunch of eggs hidden around the house to find.  Tate loved finding the eggs and kept saying, "Wow! This Easter Bunny sure left me a lot of eggs. He must really like me. I must have been a good boy." I didn't think there were that many eggs, but I guess anything seems like a lot when your last attempt only landed you with two eggs.  We had a fun morning looking for eggs and then opening each one to see what was inside. We finished the morning with a delicious breakfast made by Kraig.  We had a wonderful Easter. The holidays are a lot of fun when you have a little one to bring so much joy and happiness!
Tate has really been wanting a new baseball hat.  He was super excited when the Easter Bunny brought him a BYU Cougar hat.  So excited!
His new Buzz Lightyear swimming suit.

Putting on the hat for the first time. He was one happy boy.   I don't think he has taken it off since.  We had to put it right next to the bed when he went to sleep last night.
Let the hunt begin!

Look a tiny egg!  AKA bubble gum egg.
Right when this picture was taken, Tate said, "Wow! This basket is so heavy!" That is why he is bent over, he is trying to carry his basket.
Checking out his loot.
One happy boy on Easter.

Coloring Eggs

Saturday afternoon, the day before Easter, we finally got around to coloring our Easter Eggs.  Tate had fun picking out which decorating kit he wanted. This year he chose a Mini Monsters kit.  We had fun coloring our eggs. Or in Tate's situation, his hands.  He chose to just use his hands to put the eggs into the dye and take them out.  His little monsters turned out pretty darn cute and we had a fun afternoon as a family.

Tate had just put his first egg into the dye. He was so excited to see what it would look like when it was done.

Tate and his daddy. Tate loves being with his dad.

Eggs, eggs and more eggs.  Tate did about 18 eggs and still wanted to know why there weren't any more.  I guess you can never have enough fun!

I love this!  Tate was showing us his monster face!

Posing with his yellow egg monster.

The finished product.  A whole bunch of egg monsters complete with scary hair, eyes and mouths.  What a great afternoon!

Easter Egg Hunt

Tate's friend, Cooper, invited us to go with them to an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning.  When we woke up it was raining like crazy and even snowing a bit. I wasn't too excited about going, but decided we would brave it anyway.  The rain stopped by the time we left, but it was still cold.  We got all bundled up and Tate was so excited. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Tate and Cooper all sorts of happy waiting for their chance to grab some eggs.  The baseball field was covered with eggs.
All smiles!
On your mark, get set, go!
Literally, about three minutes later this is what comes back.  You can't tell, but they are both crying. I should have taken a picture of their baskets. They each had two eggs and were sad they didn't get more. .  They were definitely out done by the bigger kids.  Some nice little girl, who had a full bucket of eggs,  saw the two of them crying and gave them some of her eggs. What a sweetheart! That brought a smile to Tate's face.  Every kid gets a ticket at the end and gets to trade it in for a prize.
Tate was thrilled with his new Spider Man Kite!  When we got home, Tate told Kraig that it was the best Easter Egg Hunt Ever. Ah!  The things kids say and how quickly they forget!

Preschool Easter Party

One of the great things about teaching your own child in preschool is that you get to attend all of the parties with him.  We had a fun Easter Party last week at school. When it was over Tate said, "Man we are lucky, that was such a fun party."  Oh to be entertained as easily as a four year old!  The party was pretty fun.  Thanks to such great moms who helped out, the kids were able to make an Easter Bunny sack for gathering their eggs from the Easter Egg hunt and Easter Bunnies made out of apples and different kinds of candy.  They also got to decorate an egg and fill eat with rice and then do a dance to a song about a Shaky Egg.  It was so cute to watch them all dancing.  What a great time!

Tate and his cute apple bunny.  The ears were orange slices, eyes were jelly beans and the whiskers were string cheese.  So cute.  Tate loved them!  His didn't last very long, though.

Tate and his friends doing the Shaky Egg dance.  So funny to watch.

Tate really got into shaking his egg.

Apolo Ohno, Shani Davis and the the USA bobsled team all rolled into one

This post, as the others, are a bit overdue but this had to be posted.  This past February we were glued to the television watching the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games.  Tate really got into the speed skating and bobsledding events.  He became a master student of both disciplines.  Please note the excellent skating form and impeccalbe timing on the bobsledding event.  We are so proud.

It's Fieldtrip Time, Again

Another fieldtrip for preschool has come and gone.  This time we headed over to the local grocery store, Macey's.  We took a little tour around the grocery store, went inside of their huge walk in freezer and fridge, ate cookies and donuts and even got a pencil from the bank.  Tate's favorite part was the donut and the magic pencil (it changes color in the heat).
Tate and Micah enjoying their donut at the end of  our tour.

Tate and his class learning about the different kids of fruits and vegetables you can buy at the store.  I was pretty impressed when they held up a vegetable and asked what it was. Tate yelled out zuchhini.  Impressive. He won't eat it, but at least he knows what it is.
Getting ready to go inside the freezer!
So cold.
The kids were pretty intrigued by the different kinds of meat  you can buy at the grocery store. This one happens to be pigs feet. Oooh! So delicious.

Happy Birthday, Kraig

Once we finished with the whole leprechaun situation, it was time to move on to Kraig's birthday!  Kraig took the day off and it was so fun to be able to spend some time as a family. With Kraig's school and work schedule the way it is right now, it isn't very common that we actually get to spend a whole lot of time together. So, we definitely enjoyed the day.  We started the morning with green pancakes, of course, sausage and orange juice. Then, Kraig wanted to try out his new birthday/soon to be graduation present, his new road bike.  While he was out riding his bike, Tate and I made a sign, decorated with balloons and got his presents all ready.  After Kraig got home, we opened presents (not very many considering he got a bike) and then went miniature golfing (Tate's choice) and then out to dinner at Olive Garden.  We ended the night with cupcakes and ice cream. Happy Birthday, Kraig. We hope you had a great day.  Tate and I love you and appreciate all you do to provide for our little family.

Tate getting excited about his dads presents. A new shirt and shorts!
Tate has to get in on the action.  You don't want to be left to open a present without help. Good thing Tate was there to help out.
We played this game (Ladder Ball) at some friends house once and Tate loved it.  When we were out shopping for Kraig's birthday, this is what Tate decided that his Dad really wanted.

Tate and Dad playing some ladder ball.

I am pretty sure that Tate has played it more than Dad,!  At least Tate loves it.

Decorating the birthday cupcakes.

Blowing out the candles.  Kraig is getting way to old and we couldn't fit that many candles on a cupcake, so one will have to do.

Showing off the new bike and gear.
Headed out for a ride!
Hapy Birthday!

The Leprechauns are Coming!

We have never done a whole lot to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at our house because that is Kraig's Birthday so we usually just celebrate the birthday. But, thanks to a little lesson at church where the leprechauns took the scriptures and the kids had to help find them, Tate was pretty interested by the whole leprechaun thing.  He really couldn't talk about anything else.  He had it all figured out how he was going to set a trap and catch the leprechaun and find out where he keeps his gold.  So, we did what all good parents would do and we played it up this year and had a lot of fun. The night before, Tate and Kraig set a trap for the leprechaun.  Tate knew that the leprechauns like to eat cereal, so they used cereal as bait and went to work.  Tate went to bed that night just sure that he would have a leprechaun the next morning. Well, the leprechauns came, set the trap, but were just too tricky. Instead they left a mess, footrprints, a note and some gold candy.  When Tate woke up that morning, he jumped out of bed and yelled, "Did we catch him? Did we get the leprechaun?"  and then ran downstairs to check. It was such a fun morning!

Kraig and Tate with their trap. They made a bed for the leprechan complete with a shamrock blanket and a pillow.  Then made stairs with the blocks so the leprechaun could get into the bed. Then they used cereal to make a little path from the door to the bed.   They tied a piece of string to the butterfly net so when they leprechaun touched the string, the net would collapse and catch the leprechuan. Pretty creative!

A closer look at the trap.

This is what happened during the night.  The leprechauns came and made a mess.  The green on the floor is little leprechaun footprints.  They gold is little pieces of candy.  The trap fell, but there weren't any leprechauns inside, just a note.
Tate showing his note and eating his chocolate.  The best part is that he got super excited to be able to clean it all up and wipe away the leprechaun footprints.  We really had a lot of fun with St. Patricks Day this year.

Happy Valentine's Day

Tate really got excited about Valentine's Day and being able to give cards to his friends at school.  He loved getting the cards already, putting the candy on them and writing his name on them. He couldn't wait until it was his turn to pass them out at school.  We had a fun party at preschool for Valentine's Day.  We made hats, cute ladybug crafts and played Bingo.  Tate had a great time!
Modeling his festive hat.
Love the cute bugs.
Checking out all of his cards and treats from his friends.
